The Vectren Dayton Airshow was the Host Event for the Eastern Regional competition for four years. During
this period, NAHI hosted two events per year; the Western Regional competition held concurrent with the
Reno Air Races at Stead Field outside of Reno, Nevada and the Eastern Regional competition, held on
the ramp at the Dayton Airshow.
Dayton was chosen as the host event for the Eastern Regional competition because it was the home of one of our Founding Sponsors, the National Aviation Hall of Fame and it played a significant role in the history of aviation.
NAHI was very fortunate in that the annual Hall of Fame Enshrinement ceremony and the Dayton Airshow were held on the same weekend during this four year period of time. Many Hall of Fame Enshrinees were able to attend the annual Enshrinement and also participate in the awards ceremony at the NAHI event.
In subsequent years, the Dayton Airshow and the annual Hall of Fame Enshrinement were held on different weekends and it no longer made the Dayton Airshow a viable event for hosting NAHI. NAHI now hosts one competition annually at the California Capital Airshow.
